A mother, a father, a child. Kidney failure is not planned. It is treatable. But for those who can't afford treatment, the thought of losing one's life results in despair. Our mission is to save lives through kidney treatment and preventive care. Please donate to help kidney patients get treatment and a renewed life.
Hope Kidney Foundation was founded in January 1994 by Dr. Salman Shakoh, a renowned specialist in kidney treatment and nephrology. What lead him to this path? Find out more here.
HEALTHCARE ACCESS
The Affordability and Accessibility Gap in Pakistan
There are 50,000 new cases of end stage kidney failure each year in Pakistan, and 90% of these patients die due to lack of access to treatment. While complete kidney failure can be treated with lifelong dialysis, the real tragedy is that many cases are preventable if only early treatment and preventive care were accessible.
The cost of treating end stage kidney failure is expensive. In Pakistan, insurance coverage is rare. The average family making 25,000 pkr ($90) per month, simply cannot afford treatment. The toll on families is tragic, as a few months of dialysis displaces education, clothing, and financially cripples the family, until they give up on treatment.
Hope Kidney Foundation
We seek to address the root causes of this crisis as follows:
To train physicians and address the critical gap in Pakistan of nephrologists and medical student training.
To provide public education: Kidney failure is preventable, but its lack of awareness causes immense suffering.
To stop early disease progress: Acute kidney failure can be reversed, while early kidney disease can be stemmed through care.
To provide free dialysis and transplants for late stage kidney failure, to extend lives while saving families from collapsing.
We can prevent kidney disease, stop disease progress, and efficiently treat kidney failure. Find out about our R&D and solutions here.
